The population of people age 65 and older is expected to double to 85 million by 2050. People are living longer, which means where they choose to settle down in retirement is even more important.

Livability.com recently released its annual list of the best small-to-medium sized cities for retirement, factoring in affordability and quality health care, cost of living, retiree friendly businesses and services, and places that foster active lifestyles in retirement.

“As the aging population grows and diversifies, so will their ideas of ideal retirement,” says Matt Carmichael, Livability.com’s editor. “We wanted our list of Best Places to Retire to reflect the breadth of options today’s active seniors are considering.”

The following locales landed in the top 10 as best places to retire for 2015:

  3. Plano, Texas
  4. Tacoma, Wash.
  5. Carson City, Nev.
  6. Hillsboro, Ore.
  7. Lincoln, Neb.
  8. Charlottesville, Va.
  9. Rapid City, S.D.
  10. Scottsdale, Ariz.
